RETAIL: The Icing store at Gateway Mall, a jewelry retailer targeting tweens and teens, will be closing as part of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Parent company Claire’s will remain open. At SouthPointe Mall, Toy Time has been padlocked for several weeks and is now permanently closed, according to Google, though the company’s Facebook page shows a remaining Kansas City location.
NONPROFIT: Houses of Hope has purchased property at 4747 A Street and plans to remodel the facility for future use.
APARTMENTS: Strictly Business Magazine reports that Hoppe Development is leading the 23rd Street Net-Zero Live/Work Project in Antelope Valley. The development will feature “missing middle” apartment pricing, aiming to make units affordable for households earning up to 65% of the area median income. The first floor will include a food hall for startup restaurants, including Golden Goat Pizza.
DATA CENTER: At 5505 Cloud Court near I-80 and Highway 77, Agate LLC has filed a $1 million permit for an addition to an existing Google-owned office building. The expansion will provide new open office space and conference rooms.
TOURISM: Between the gravel racing event and the volleyball tournaments over Labor Day weekend, Lincoln was a destination for visitors all over the world. Visit Lincoln promotion staff used the event to try to recruit more major athletic events to the Arena, according to Derek Bombeck at LCOC.
ROAD CONSTRUCTION: Work begins this month on the interchange project at U.S. Highway 77, Warlick Boulevard, and Denton Road. The project will reconstruct approximately 0.8 miles of West Denton Road west of the interchange and 0.3 miles of Warlick Boulevard east of the interchange. Plans include new street lighting, upgraded traffic signals, and extended or replaced roadway culverts, according to a letter from the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
RESTAURANTS: Several projects are underway:
• 2045 S. 17th Street – Burger King remodeling project valued at $200,000.
• 1328 P Street – Buffalo Wild Wings undergoing renovations.
• 1800 O Street – A filing for Articles of Incorporation reveals plans for 10:02 Coffee inside the City Light Church building. The property, formerly a medical clinic and before that a DuTeau car dealership, was purchased earlier this year by the church.
EDUCATION: Southeast Community College’s Welding Technology Center is now open, according to an announcement by Davis Design and published in the Lincoln Journal Star.
