ALCOHOL: A UNL “Power of Parenting” website report states that in 2024, 92% of first-year students at UNL reported that they “either abstained from alcohol, or if they drank, they did not binge drink” (defined as 5 drinks for men and 4 drinks for women within two hours). According to Forbes, by early 2026, the global alcohol industry has lost an estimated $830 billion in market value over four years, representing a 46% plunge from its 2021 peak. Only 54% of U.S. adults now report consuming alcohol, the lowest rate in 90 years. Other sources vary, indicating that it has dropped in ten years from 56% to 51%.
