RESTAURANT: Firebirds Wood Fired Grill, based in Omaha, held a soft opening in its newly renovated suite at 2950 Pine Lake Road in the former Amish Furniture and Pier 1 Imports space. The restaurant is now accepting public reservations beginning Tuesday, June 30. Firebirds features an American menu centered on wood-fired steaks and seafood.
RETAIL: N Street Drive-In has closed after 63 years in business, according to 10/11 News. Local commercial real estate multiple listing services indicate a sale of the property is pending.
INDUSTRIAL: A $60 million expansion project has been unveiled at Duncan Aviation near Lincoln Airport. The project includes 36,000 square feet of new turbofan engine shop space, along with a certification training center where students will learn to inspect and repair aircraft engines. Duncan Aviation provides aircraft sales, maintenance, and service to clients across the U.S. and internationally.
MIXED USE: In the College View area, on July 13, the Lincoln City Council will consider zoning changes aimed at encouraging more housing density. Proposed changes include allowing taller buildings, reducing parking requirements, and permitting buildings to be constructed closer to the street within roughly one to two blocks of 48th Street and Pioneers Boulevard. Historically, College View was known as “Peanut Hill” in the late 1800s. John Harvey Kellogg, co-founder of Kellogg Company, operated a sanitarium north of that intersection on what is now the campus of Union Adventist University.
