BUSINESS NEWS THIS WEEK-RESTAURANTS: Closed, Naughty Buddha Burger, a vegan restaurant in the Telegraph District. Open, Laughing Crab, a Cajun seafood chain with existing locations in Texas, Louisiana, and other central states is located in Gateway mall and held a Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting.
SENIOR CARE: Construction is underway on Cedarhurst of Lincoln, a new senior living facility at 7095 Pine Lake Road. The development, slated to open in 2026, will offer assisted living and memory care services.
LIQUOR: The Lincoln Planning Commission will consider a proposed zoning change affecting South 33rd Street from C Street to Normal Boulevard. The proposed change would allow for alcohol sales and denser residential development, prompted by commercial business owners near 33rd and B Streets.
CHURCHES: Church of the Holy Trinity at 6001 A Street will undergo exterior and interior renovations under a $750,000 building permit. Saint Mary’s Church, located at 1420 K Street, plans a $720,000 remodel of its church hall, kitchen, and restrooms.
OFFICES: Choices Inc., a nonprofit specializing in gambling addiction counseling and partially funded by the Nebraska State Lottery, will relocate to 4435 O Street this summer. The organization is closely monitoring trends in online gambling, which is currently legalized in Iowa, Kansas, Colorado and Wyoming, but not in South Dakota or Nebraska.
Early May
1. GOVERNMENT: The Lincoln Fire Department’s administration offices are relocating from their current site at 18th & Q Streets to the Municipal Services Center, located at 901 N. Bond Street, near the airport and close to the Fairfield Inn and Hampton Inn. The existing fire station at 18th & Q will remain in operation and is planning for future expansion.
2. RETAIL: Women’s clothing retailer Aerie, part of the American Eagle brand, has filed a $398,299 building permit for a new store at Gateway Mall. Aerie currently operates other Nebraska locations in Gretna and Omaha.
3. RESTAURANT: Paris Banh Mi Cafe Bakery is set to open in the former Issara Thai restaurant space at 17th Street and Pine Lake Road. Issara closed in late 2022.
4. SENIOR LIVING / MEDICAL: The Syracuse Area Health Orthopedic Clinic and Urgent Care has filed a $1.379 million permit for a new facility on the first floor of the Nebraska Pain Clinic building, located near Nebraska Parkway and Pine Lake Road.
5. OFFICE: 13th & N: The Federal Trust Building begins a new chapter with its owner, Stonebrook Companies, and a new tenant, Nebraska Hospital Association, according to a press release from the association. The building is located at 13th and N Streets in downtown Lincoln. Nebraska Hospital Association will move its current headquarters near NorthStar High School into the revitalized landmark where First National Bank of Omaha used to be located and will occupy four floors of the 12-story Gothic Revival building, including a full remodel of the first and second floors to create a dedicated event space for members and partners.
