RESTAURANTS: Now open: Akita Hibachi Express in Havelock. In the former Mary Ellen’s across from SouthPointe Mall: Everbowl, a regional chain with healthy smoothies has pulled a $125,000 building permit.

HOSPITALITY: At 920 Q Street downtown, Drury Hotel has pulled $28 million pool and spa permit.

WAREHOUSE: In national news, tariffs taxes on steel were implemented by the President this week. In Lincoln in 2021, commercial real estate sales data indicated that new construction metal warehouses were frequently built in the $80 to $100 per square foot price range including the ground, but by 2024 costs had inflated to $140 per square foot.

RETAIL: Nebraska Ballroom Moved from the Del Ray ballroom building in the Haymarket to 1233 Arapahoe between Piccoli Dance Studio and Vanity Fur

GOVERNMENT: Near the airport at 3977 Air Park Road, the Nebraska State Patrol lab is building an addition and renovation to existing forensic lab building, pulling a $17 million building permit.

EDUCATION: BVH Architects released images of a new North Star High School expansion, a hangar-style shop for aviation/technical education students. It’s an after-school program with Duncan Aviation and Boys and Girls Club of America. At 8400 Cody Drive, Acton Academy, a Montessori-based K-12 private school near 14th & Yankee Hill Road, is expanding into a larger portion of the building. At 5801 S 84th, Lincoln Christian School is constructing 6 new 70’ baseball field.

RESTAURANTS: Open: Mulberry BBQ by Single Barrel at 6125 Apple’s Way near Lowes. Salt Mine City Brewing Company, which began as a bar at 801 R, is now serving meals starting at 11:00 AM. Muchachos d/b/a CTRL Coffee & Cereal Bar is open near Costco at 1501 Pine Lake.
Laughing Crab Cajun Seafood and Bar announced it will open a store at Gateway in the former Five Guys Pizza location sometime this year.

OFFICE: The multi-use building that Goodly Cookie Company and UNL vacated at 1201 Q Street was deeded from Suleiman Holdings to an Omaha lender in June is now for sale on area commercial real estate listing sites; in December, the Register of Deeds identified an office property in the former UNL Technology Park at 777 Research Drive by the same owner deeded to the same lender.
